Often when you think of school you don’t know what you will get at the end of it. It is mainly theory for the most part and nothing is ever guaranteed. But knowing the success story of someone else, or in the case of a trade such as shoemaking, being able to see what other students were able to accomplish in the course helps to give you a better idea of what you can expect to also accomplish if you put your heart and mind into it. Schola Academy has taken some amazing photography of their last round of students’ final projects and man, is it impressive!
Here we will showcase 3 students who underwent the Artigiano course, which is a 20-week program that allows you to become fully immersed in the shoemaking process and at the end has you create a capsule collection. So, let’s take a look at each student’s creations as they all present different styles with different feels and ideas.

Please note, the rest of the post is very picture heavy
Student: Ko
Ko’s style was very classic, making a collection of only black shoes with subtle accent pieces and small design quirks. The black with the yellow Norwegian had a very Doc Marten inspiration feel to it, but I find it pretty cool. The others had a touch of green accent pieces, subtle yet noticeable. I especially like the loafers with the green piping. Unique and classic.
Student: Miguel
Miguel stuck with two models only. They have a very Austro-Hungarian feel to them. I really like the loafers, again. They have a very old-world feel to them. Very rarely do you see a loafer with a straight cap on it. On top of that some tassels to add some extra flair. A great design IMHO. One that I would certainly wear. Also because it is my style of a low-cut, sock-showing model. I could already envision all of the combinations of colors and materials on them!
Student: Morgane
Morgane’s work was by far the most daring and adventurous. It actually reminded me of myself when I first started drawing my initial collection with colored pipings and super crazy contrast stitching. I love the direction Morgane went in. I particularly like the blue derbies and that is saying something as I am not a huge derby fan, but love the lines on it and how low profile it is. A very clever design. While all students did a great job, it is nice to see someone truly being different and going in the direction of classic but bold!
I love the fact that they are now taking photos of the students work as I feel that this is what we need to see to be inspired. To see what someone else can do and know that we can do it to. Often, people might say that the school is a big investment. And it can. But at the end of it, you are gaining the skills of a trade. And what you with that knowledge can make your future. Most trade schools are also not so cheap so it is not like anything is new. But at least with Schola Academy, you can to learn a craft and live in Florence, Italy! Who can beat that!
I look forward to the next round of student’s shoes and you can bet that I will highlight them here.
