The Crockett & Jones Preorder Collection is the English shoemaker’s latest edition of footwear and a new way of testing things before actually making things. The Preorder is becoming a smart way to hedge your bets in an ever-changing world of tastes, leather supply, economic standing, and many more issues that keep the retail world quite volatile. In reality, it is a smart way to do business if the customer base doesn’t mind waiting for their products.
In their inaugural preorder collection, Crockett & Jones offers a humble 4 models to kick things off. I can imagine that this will grow as the Preorder collection continues to build ground, which apparently already has done so according to C&J. The models in this new collection are quintessentially British with two rugged derbies and two rugged boots. The leathers du jour are unique for Crockett & Jones: Russian Grain, Zug Grain, and Deerskin suede. I hope that they use that deerkin to make other models. That is among the softest leather known to man.
The Preorder collections will run season to season, where Crockett & Jones will amass orders on these exclusive models. I have yet to decipher if they will go to the RTW collections or simply be a more GMTO style model and only have their 1-2 month period of display and then go back to the archives. Either way, best to not dwell on that and get your order in soon if you like one of these as they will be available through January.
